Fundamental Principles of Religious Freedom for All Men of Good Will

Readers who ponder the question of how to unify all Americans in defense of our First Amendment right to religious liberty may want to review the Manhattan Declaration. This manifesto was composed and released by a group of  prominent Christian clergy, ministry leaders, and scholars in 2009, and has been signed by 528,356 Americans since then.

In brief, the Manhattan Declaration calls for:

1. The sanctity of human  life.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27

2. Traditional marriage.

The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man." For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. Genesis 2:23-24

3. Religious liberty.

Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's. Matthew 22:21

as bedrock principles for the survival of the United States as a constitutional republic.
